Dear Friends of Nun Ings,
I am writing to call a meeting of FONI on the 24th April from 7-9pm at Southlands Church (Room 1) to discuss the recent appeal verdict by a Government Inspector to grant planning permission for the Extra Care Apartments at the former Terry’s car park. I have attached the verdict.
This has been a very long-winded planning process. This contentious application has never been to a Planning Committee in York for locally elected Councillors to consider. It has finally been decided by an Inspector following a Planning Officer decision under delegated authority powers. Local residents have not had the opportunity to express their views to local Councillors. The approval decision by the inspector includes the admission that the development will have an impact on views from the river looking across Nun Ings. This decision could have possible implications for Nun Ings future and might be seen as the thin end of a wedge
I have written to the COYC Planning Department and to Ward Councillors to express concerns about the way this application has been handled from my own perspective. But it is important that the Friends of Nun Ings should meet to discuss how best to proceed and to put forward a collective view on this verdict and how it has been handled. The verdict is final and the planning permission cannot be reversed but I feel we need to discuss where we go from here as a Friends community association.
In addition to discussing the Terry Car Park decision we would like to give feedback on the progress made over the last year and to hold a brief AGM in order to appoint officers and look to future plans and activities for FONI.
Best wishes
Johnny Hayes
Chair of FONI
