Located just outside of York city centre, Nun Ings is wide open patch of meadow that has offered generations of York residents access to the countryside right on their doorsteps.

Friends of Nun Ings, was founded in early 2023 to preserve and restore this precious piece of nature. But we can’t do it alone – we need your help to ensure that Nun Ings continues to thrive for future generations.
Why Nun Ings Matters
• Wellbeing: Nun Ings offers a sanctuary for relaxation and reflection, promoting mental health and wellbeing for all who visit – a vital resource in an otherwise built-up area of the city.
• Nature: Otters, butterflies, and maybe even some rare ground-nesting birds have been spotted at Nun Ings! The site is deceptively biodiverse and has so much potential.
• History: Our first investigations have revealed that the landscape may have been in use since Roman times, and has evidence of medieval structures. We’re working with an archaeologist to uncover more of the history woven into the fabric of Nun Ings. Check out this link for more information: British History Online – Common lands and strays.
